WELCOME BACK!!! WELCOME BACK!!! WELCOME BACK!!!

***********************************************************************************
It's great to be back for another year at Immaculate Conception. I am looking forward to a very exciting and wonderful school year. My door is always open should you have the need. I am also available via email (khrutkay@immaculate.net). I will answer!!!!! We opened the 2007-2008 school year with an enrollment of 264 students. The teachers have many ideas for some interesting academic and fun activities for the students. I hope you will be able to be a part of them. Just check the calendar as to dates and times ... call the school to let us know you will attend.

Again ... WELCOME BACK!!!! Ms. Kathy Hrutkay, Principal

*************************************************************************************************
1. We are welcoming a new staff member. Mrs. Anne Fink is our new full-time Kindergarten Aide. She is a certified teacher coming from St. Lewis School. She will be assisting in Mrs. Hartman’s class. A warm WELCOME to IC!!!!!!

2. Please check above and your school calendar for the dates and times for the curriculum nights for grades 1-8. This is a time to meet the teachers, find out about the class and curriculum, and visit the rooms. If you need to talk to the teachers about something specific, please make an appointment for another time. Since we have departmental teaching in grades 4-8, it is necessary to have three evenings. The FIRST evening will have two sessions: 7-7:45PM and 7:45-8:30PM. The SECOND and THIRD evenings, the parents will follow the student's schedule and therefore meet with all of the teachers. The special teachers (PE, music, computers, and library) will be in their classrooms should you have any questions or just want to say HELLO. ALL parents are to gather in the gym at 7PM to hear some "words of wisdom" from our pastor, Fr. Troha, and our principal. Approximately 7:20PM you will be meeting with the teachers. Kindergarten parents already attended their evening before school began.

3. Just a reminder -- The first page of the calendar/handbook is the STATEMENT OF COOPERATION. All parents sign a copy of this contract which states that you support school policy, making tuition and other financial payments on time, and participating in fundraising activities as your commitment to Immaculate Conception School. This is your contract with the school. By signing this contract, you agree to uphold and follow the contents of the school handbook. FYI -- the contents were created by other principals and reviewed by diocesan legal counsel.

4. We are still in need of lunch parents. If you have the time (11:30AM-12:45PM) in your schedule and would like to earn $6.00/day OR use the time for volunteer hours, please call the school office. Your participation will be appreciated.

5. Wednesday, September 12th. is the first general CPTU Meeting for 2007-2008. Faculty members will be in attendance. This is the perfect opportunity to meet the entire faculty, including our new teachers and staff members. More information will be sent home in the weeks to come. Mark your calendar to attend. We hope to see many parents in attendance at this first meeting of a new school year.

6. FUNDRAISING FOR 2007-2008 -- This coming school year we will be participating in the magazine sale, Malley's candy, and Market Day. The Box Tops Program will be used for the library. The money generated from our Market Day sales will continue to be used to pay for the W-E buses used for field trips. Students will not have to pay for the extra transportation to and from places in the Cleveland area. Our magazine drive will be used to update technology for our students. The rest of the money generated will be put into the school account and will be used for materials that are needed in the school. I hope all families will participate in the fundraisers for this coming school year.

7. Willoughby-Eastlake Transportation notice for change in dismissal transportation ... last school year notices were sent home about a change beginning this school year. Any student needing to be transported to a different location FOR EMERGENCY SITUATIONS ONLY must present a yellow bus pass when they board the bus. This is obtained through the school office with the signature of the principal. No longer can a child go to another child’s house for recreational activities. If you have any questions, please call W-E Transportation (975-3736) not the school office.

8. IC has once again received the award for the GOVERNORS BUCKEYE BEST HEALTHY SCHOOL AWARD. This comes from the Governor's Council for tobacco education, nutrition/school food service and physical activity. The award was given for our improvement in these areas. We received the SILVER Award which is found on the wall outside the computer room.

9. Child Find is an activity conducted by state and local education agencies to locate children ages birth to 21 that have disabilities. The purpose of the program is to provide special education and related services that are needed. Disabilities may include developmental delays in communication skills, motor skills, or social emotional/behavior functioning. A student is considered disabled if they have one or more of the following conditions: autism, deaf-blindness, hearing impairment, brain injury, learning disabilities, emotional disturbance, or a speech or language impairment. If you know of any child who has or may have special needs, please contact Mrs. Rolanda Schonauer, Office of Pupil Services, Willoughby-Eastlake City Schools at 440-975-3800. You may also contact the East Shore SERRC at 440-256-8483. Once notified, the school district will contact the parent to find out if the child needs to be evaluated. The evaluation will be provided free of charge and if eligible, the child will receive appropriate special education and related services.
10. SPECIAL OTHER'S DAY will be the last Friday in September (28th.) from 1:00-2PM. Students may invite that "special other" to spend time with them at school. More specific information will be sent home later.

11. Thursday, September 27th. is HIGH SCHOOL NIGHT at IC from 7-8:30PM in the gym. The following high schools will be here to give you information and answer questions ... Beaumont, Benedictine, Lake Catholic, Notre Dame/Cathedral Latin, Regina, St. Ignatius, Villa Angela/St. Joseph, St. Edward. The high schools will be set up in convention style around the gym. All students and parents in grades 6-8 are welcome to attend. It's not too early to begin the "high school search."

12. On Sunday, September 23rd. all day school and PSR students in Kindergarten are asked to attend the 10AM Mass with their parents. They will sit with their families up front on Mary’s side. Pews will be reserved for our guests.

13. Our 7th. graders will be participating in the Ohio Renaissance Festival held outside of Dayton. There is a special program for students and ours is Wednesday, September 26th. The students are in for a real treat as they experience life during the Renaissance time. It will certainly be a full day beginning with a 4:30AM departure from IC and returning approximately 7:30PM. Of course, they will have the next day to sleep and rest up (Thursday, September 27th. NO SCHOOL for the 7th. grade)!!!!!!!

14. AM drop off -- The line of cars by the chain should be dropping off their children four cars at a time. The children should exit the car on the passenger side. Since the school buses drive along the driver’s side, this will keep our children safe. If you need to "say good-bye and do hugs and kisses", please park your car and have the children use the cross walk. Please do not drop off you child at the maid door prior to 8:10AM. You are to use the AM drop off procedure. If your child is entering after 8:10AM, a parent need to bring them in to the office through the mail door. Students must be in their seats when the tardy bell rings at 8:10AM.

15. PM pick up -- This school year we will have more W-E buses. Since we are trying to keep our students safe, there is a change in dismissal. Two W-E buses will be around the corner near the Center Street exit. Students will be dismissed ... bus riders ... then car riders ... then walkers and I Care. Parents who pick up their children are asked to wait until the children are at their cars.

16. If you are visiting the school or volunteering in the school, please park in the church lot OR where the teachers park. There’s to be NO PARKING along the fence/guard rail. Thank you.

17. FYI -- The decision has been made to send this present 6th. and 7th. graders to Washington DC in October, 2008. With a larger number of students, the price will be less. This year the Spaghetti Dinner on Saturday, September 22nd. is a fundraiser by the 6th. and 7th. grade students to off set their Washington DC trip. How about supporting our students and eat out that day!!!!!!!!!!

18. The teachers are in the process of inputting information into the Edline program. This will be up and running for Monday, September 24th. You will be able to access your child’s academic record at that time.
