We are pleased to have you as a member of our
faith building community.. We hope that your personal and spiritual experiences here at
Immaculate Conception will deepen your commitment to God. Our parish is trying to build a
caring community, whereby we welcome you to proclaim the Good News and to minister to all
of God's people.
This booklet has been prepared to share with you
the variety of ways our parish community gives witness to Jesus Christ. We invite you to
join us as we journey on our pilgrimage of faith to give glory to God in worship and to
minister the needs of our parish family.
LITURGICAL MINISTRIES
ALTAR SERVERS
Altar boys begin to serve at Immaculate Conception during
the fifth grade. Many continue to serve at Mass and solemn occasions through out
high school, college and adulthood. Servers are needed for daily and Sunday
Masses as well as weddings, Eucharistic Devotions and other solemn occasions.

ADULT SERVERS
Adult men of the parish volunteer to serve funerals. We
welcome men whose mornings are free to serve funerals.

ADULT CHOIR
This choir is a group of dedicated men and women who give
their time and talent to enhance the Liturgical Services of our parish. Many of
our members have never sung in a choir before, but through commitment and
rehearsals are able to develop their musical talents. Choir Masses are sung on a
rotating schedule and rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to
9:00 PM. If you are willing to join in this challenging and rewarding
experience, we welcome your interest and participation.

These individuals assist in leading the singing at the
remaining Masses.

CHURCH CLEANING "ANGELS"
The "angels" help in the weekly clean-up of the church on Monday
mornings. They maintain the areas of the vestibules, pews, sanctuary and
sacristies.

Communion Ministers have the responsibility of helping to
distribute the Eucharist at Mass.

EUCHARISTIC MINISTRY TO THE SICK
Eucharistic Ministers take Holy Communion to those parishioners
unable to attend Mass; those in nursing homes and/or hospitals; after the 8:00
AM Mass every Sunday, and other Sunday Masses.

LITURGY COMMISSION
This ministry is composed of parishioners whose purpose is to
assist the Pastor and the Associate Pastor in promoting good Liturgy,
appropriate music and special services. Representatives are responsible for
scheduling Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers and ensuring the writing of Sunday
intercessions.

MASS GREETERS
This group welcomes worshippers to
Immaculate Conception’s liturgies. Our purpose is to make parishioners feel
welcome with a smile and greeting. Children are welcome to join their parents to
act as a family group of greeters.

TEEN CHOIR
This group is composed of teens from our school, PSR, and
our parish who wish to learn to sing with a group. They sing at the 10:00 AM
Mass on the second Sunday of each month.

USHERS
The ushers are a group of men and women who are dedicated to
serving God and their parish. Their primary responsibilities are welcoming
parishioners and guests at Mass, assisting in seating them, taking up the
collection and facilitating in the orderly reception of Holy Communion. In
addition, the ushers are trained to assist in case someone becomes ill or
incapacitated. Upon request, they also assist at other functions such as
Eucharistic Devotions and Reconciliation Services.

YOUTH CHOIR
The Youth Choir sings every 4th Sunday and is composed of IC
young people from grades 1 through 6th.

PARISH LIFE
BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY
This ministry helps families cope with grief. The sadness felt
after the death of a loved one can bring life to a grinding halt. We offer a
support session on the second Thursday of the month. We gather informally after
the 7:00 p.m. Mass.

BOOK CENTER
The John Paul II Book Center
provides an orthodox selection of texts and other Catechetical, devotional, and
pastoral literature that is faithful to Church teaching. The John Paul II Book
Center is open after each of the Saturday evening Masses and Sunday Masses for
about 20 minutes. Volunteers who are available for any of these time periods
after the Masses are welcome to assist in staffing the Book Center.

CATHOLIC YOUTH ORGANIZATION (CYO) AND BOOSTER CLUB
The Catholic Youth Organization is a diocesan organization that
fosters athletics for youth. Our parish has over 30 sports teams in six sports.
All children of the parish, no matter what school they attend may participate in
CYO sports. Our program is always in need of women and men to coach our various
teams. Through their fund-raising programs, sports equipment and uniforms used
in the sports programs are purchased. Meetings are held the first Thursday of
the month at 7:00 PM in the Rectory.

ELIZABETH MINISTRY
Elizabeth Ministry is an international movement designed to
support women and their families during the joys, trials and sorrows of the
childbearing years and beyond. Elizabeth Ministry's mission is to cherish
children, encourage families and build community. We offer peer support,
mentoring and spiritual nourishment. This ministry is based on the scripture
story of the visitation of Mary and Elizabeth. As they shared their stories
together, they helped one another recognize God's will and the sacredness of
their lives.

F.I.A.T.
F.I.A.T. (Faith in Action Today) is an outreach program
developed to assist those of the parish in need and to give parishioners an
opportunity to open their hearts to others. Through the Parish Skills Bank we
have helped others with minor home repairs, minor plumbing repairs,
transportation, errands, housekeeping, etc.

FIFTY PLUS CLUB
This social club is open to all people fifty and older. The 50
Plus Club meets the first Tuesday of the month in the Church Meeting Room at
7:30 PM. Many exciting activities are planned throughout the year; outings,
picnics, dinners and much more.

GIRL SCOUTS
Scouting is offered to girls of the parish from kindergarten
through the eighth grade. It offers an opportunity to develop leadership skills
and self-awareness through interaction with other girls the same age. It allows
them to prepare for their future through career exploration, community service,

HOSPITALITY COMMITTEE
The Hospitality Committee promotes a welcoming atmosphere in the
parish. They provide greeters at the Masses as well as host welcoming events
like dinners for new parishioners and other get-togethers.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
The K of C is a Catholic men’s fraternal organization that was
formed to render financial aid to members and their families. Social and
intellectual fellowship is promoted through educational, charitable, religious,
social welfare and service to Church, country and fellow man. While the Knights
of Columbus is not an Immaculate Conception Group/Organization, it meets at our
parish on the first and third Tuesday of every month.

OKTOBERFEST IN JULY
The entire parish comes together the third full weekend in July
to sponsor the annual "Oktoberfest in July". This event is comparable to the
"festivals" of other parishes, but our uniqueness draws crowds and reviews. The
preparations involved are numerous, and we rely on the minds and hands of many
to successfully put on this event. Information on becoming a volunteer or being
part of the planning committee can be had by calling the Oktoberfest volunteer
coordinator Patty Trolli.

PRO-LIFE COMMITTEE
The Pro-Life Committee seeks to educate parishioners about
right-to-life issues as well as promoting events that celebrate the
right-to-life. Meetings are held monthly on the second Wednesday

ST. VINCENT de PAUL SOCIETY
An outreach to the community, this organization seeks to help
those of the Parish in need through ongoing donations of food and specific
collections of clothing and furniture. The Poor Box in the church and other
contributions provide the help needed. Meetings are held the fourth Monday of
each month at 7:30 PM in the rectory meeting room.

SOCIAL JUSTICE COMMITTEE
The Social Justice committee supports a monthly meal at St.
James Episcopal church in Painesville. The members are responsible for serving
the meal on the first Sunday of every month.

WELCOMING COMMITTEE
This group goes out and individually visits
new parishioners, welcoming them and bringing them information about their new
parish in a spirit of hospitality and prayer. They offer themselves as a source
of information to the new families.

YOUTH MINISTRY
Youth Ministry provides the opportunity for
junior and high school students to grow in their love for God and be involved as
a vital part of the parish through spiritual, service, and social activities.
Parish adults, who have a strong love for God, are able to work well with other
adults, and are willing to share their relationship with God with our junior and
high school students, are encouraged to be a part of making a difference in our
children’s Christian lives. Responsibilities include planning, guiding, and
encouraging the students in the various activities.

ADMINISTRATIVE COMMITTEES
FINANCE COUNCIL
This council is mandated by Church Law and is a
consultative body that makes recommendations to the pastor. The Parish Finance
Council brings together women and men with financial and business expertise to
aid the pastor in the administration of parish resources. This includes, but is
not limited to, preparing an annual budget, reviewing parish revenue and making
appropriate recommendations, and providing parishioners with a financial report
of the parish. The members of the Finance Council are appointed by the pastor
and include persons with skills in finance, administration, and law. There are
six voting members whose two-year terms expire in a rotating manner.

PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL
The council is a consultative body which unites laity and parish
staff in a community of prayer, leadership, service and pastoral planning. The
Council is made up of six members who are either discerned after prayerful
reflection by the group. The pastor, associate, deacon, principal, business
manager, and the parish catechetical leader are ex-officio members of the Parish
Council.

STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE
The Stewardship Committee acts as the consultative body to the
pastor regarding the ongoing stewardship process in the parish. It engages in
reading and discussions on the meaning of stewardship in our lives. The
Hospitality Committee reports to the Stewardship Committee. Members act as
models of stewardship for other parishioners by engaging in a life that is
committed to the Eucharist, prayer, service and ongoing formation.

IMMACULATE CONCEPTION SCHOOL
CATHOLIC PARENT TEACHERS UNIT (CPTU)
Membership is open to any parent, guardian of IC Student or
parishioner of the Parish. The purpose of the organization is to be a voice in
support of Catholic education, to provide financial support to the school and
encourage participation. All parents are encouraged to join.

FUNDRAISERS
Throughout the school year, volunteers are needed to help with a
variety of different fundraisers that benefit out school. They include a
Magazine Sale, the Malleys Easter Chocolate Sale, Market Day (September to May),
CPTU Certificate Sale, and the Chinese Auction.

SPONSOR-A-STUDENT
Sponsor-A-Student is a combined parish effort to
communicate the excellence of Catholic education, enabling deserving students to
attend Catholic Schools, and offer Catholics a special opportunity to share
their faith and funds to bring a "sponsored" student and his family closer to

SPIRITUAL ENRICHMENT
ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT
The BLESSED SACRAMENT CHAPEL is open twenty fours a day,
seven days a week. Our Chapel has been open since 1986, and it takes 270+
dedicated people each week to spend an hour with our Lord. New participants are
always welcome to sign up for an hour each week.

AVILAS PRAYER GROUP
AVILAS is a group of parishioners who meet to pray for an
increase of vocations and for those who are priests and religious. AVILAS meet
the third Tuesday of the month, beginning with the 7:45 AM Mass and one
half-hour after Mass.

FATIMA HOLY HOUR—BLUE ARMY
This group meets Wednesday evenings in the Blessed
Sacrament Chapel for prayer and the Rosary.

HOLY NAME SOCIETY
The Society promotes the spiritual welfare of the men of the
parish. The Holy Name Society provides spiritual and social activities, as well
as fundraisers for various worthy causes. Holy Name Sunday is the second Sunday
of each month at the 8:00 AM Mass. Meetings are held the Monday after the second
Sunday at 7:30 PM in the school library. All men of the parish 18 years and
older are welcome.

LEGION OF MARY
This ministry is an organization which seeks to assist in the
pastoral work of the parish through its members. The main goal is to help
members follow their model, The Blessed Mother. We assist the clergy in their
work of taking the Church to those who are living in nursing homes, hospitals,
and to shut-ins in their own homes. We enrich our own lives by serving the
spiritual needs of these people. Active members meet every Monday at 7:30 PM in
the CPTU room in the Church. Auxiliary members volunteer to pray the Rosary and
the Tessera daily. They support our goals of following the Blessed
Mother’s life which was always animated by charity.

NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING
Twice throughout the year a series of natural family planning (NFP)
classes are held. Engaged couples from the parish are encouraged to attend. The
classes are open to any engaged or married couple who are interested in family
planning in a safe, successful and moral way.

PRE-CANA DAY
Married couples from the parish help engaged couples prepare for
the Sacrament of Matrimony. Once or twice a year a Pre-Cana Day is held on a
Saturday at which married couples give a talk on various aspects of their
married life for the benefit of the engaged couples.

PARISH CATECHETICAL OFFICE
In conformity with the mandate of our
Lord Jesus Christ to "go¼ and make disciples of all nations" (Mt. 28:19), the
Parish Catechetical Office of Immaculate Conception Church seeks to form
Christians according to the faith and mind of the Catholic Church. To this end,
we seek to instruct in sound doctrine, amplify the community in faith, raise our
minds and hearts in fervent prayer, and labor in service and justice. We
endeavor to enter into a relationship of faith, hope, and charity with our Lord
through His Immaculate Mother, the ever-virgin Mary, and all the angels and
saints. All catechesis is entrusted to the patronage of the Sacred and
Immaculate Hearts through which all graces flow.
Pre-School Religious Program
Children ages three to five are
introduced to God and His Church. Classes meet on Sundays in the school during
the 10:00AM Mass. Volunteers needed: classroom aides.

Parish School of Religion
Youth are formed in the Catholic Faith
through instruction that encourages growth in knowledge and the spiritual life.
Grade 2 prepares for First Penance and Eucharist; Grade 8 prepares for
Confirmation. Classes meet on Tuesdays: Grades 1 to 5 from 4:00PM to 5:15PM;
Grades 6 to 8 from 7:00PM to 8:30PM. Volunteers needed: catechists, classroom
aides, office assistance.

Adult Faith Formation
Faith enrichment sessions are held
periodically throughout the year on various themes. Volunteers needed:
hospitality assistance, facility set-up.

Catechumenate (Rite of Christian Initiation
of Adults)
The catechumenal process is the means by
which unbaptized persons enter the Church. Additionally, non-Catholic Christians
enter into full communion with the Church and Catholic adults complete the
Sacraments of Initiation through this program. Inquiry sessions for those
interested are held in October or you may contact the Parish Catechetical Office
throughout the year. Volunteers needed: catechists, liturgy dismissal
facilitators, hospitality assistance, sacramental sponsors.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL (VBS)
VBS is a one week long summer program that
provides elementary school-aged children, with an opportunity to experience and
learn about Jesus in a fun and exciting way. A theme is selected and is
presented through interactive activities, such as Bible stories, songs, skits,
arts and crafts, and team-building game activities. Junior high and high school
students, and adults are needed prior to VBS week in the areas of planning,
registration, decorating, and for all activities during VBS week.
